Breezy Hill Orchard 21st Annual Spring Wassail and Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider Release Party
May 6, 2017 @ 2:00 pm
Breezy Hill Orchard and Cider Mill (sister farm of RV Grower Stone Ridge Orchard) is hosting its 21st annual Spring Wassail Festival on May 6th, beginning at 2 pm.
To celebrate the ancient Celtic ritual of wassailing, we will sing to the apple trees to ensure a bountiful harvest. There will be a sumptuous feast of local, artisanal food, including wood-fired pizza, paired with tastings of hard cider. The event features traditional folk-style dance and live Balkan music.
There will be cider tastings of our own Hudson Valley Farmhouse Cider and we will be debuting our newest cider, The Last Blacksmith. The Last Blacksmith is a blend of barrel-aged ciders, Northern Spy, and mature bitter and tannic apples. It is our homage to the stewards of lost arts and forgotten traditions.
Zlatne Uste Balkan Brass Band, a 12-piece group representing Serbian, Macedonian,
Bulgarian, and Romani traditions, headlines this year’s lineup. They are known for their production of the Golden Festival in Brooklyn. Seido Salifoski, a Macedonian Roma who has played dumbek in Balkan and Middle Eastern styles for thirty years, will perform with his group Romski Boji. World-renowned dance teacher Steve Kotansky will lead an afternoon dance workshop. Other guests includethe Vanaver Caravan Kids, with Bill and Livia Vanaver, and Bosilek Bulgarian Folk Dance Ensemble.
Sing, dance, and feast as we pay homage to the new crop.
Guests are welcome from 2pm into the wee hours of the night. Tickets can be purchased online at hudsonvalleyfarmhousecider.com.
A sliding scale is available—no one will be turned away. A limited number of complimentary tickets are available by phone.
